Oregon Day 5

And Crabbing day 1...................... this morning we all got up around 10:00 am, ate breakfast and decided to go into a new town called Newport to shop around and try out this whole crabbing thing that people just rave about. This is a picture of the fam at the docks and piers at Newport and we found a boat called "miss sue" that we all thought was pretty neat, because we have a family member whos name is SUZANNE or SUE, haha I hope she sees this we were thinking of you today.

We also ate at this yummy restaurant called Port Dock One. I had their kids meal grilled cheese and everyone else had some sort of seafood crap. You know the one when you chew up your food in your mouth and then show everyone.....................ewe. JK

Then after much delay we finally decided to go catch some crabs, that sounds bad, but you know what I mean. So we drove to this place that BOB HAD TO GET OUT OF THE CAR and ask for directions and from all places a police officer. We joked around that he must have been reminising (spelling?) about old cop stuff event though they had never met, but he told us to try this place called Walport and try their dock. He claimed that where we were was to windy, so we agreed, left and ended up to Walport, Oregon. When we got there the wind was blowing only about 40 mph and 40 degrees (maybe some exaggerating there) but needless to say it was a cold one. Here are some pictures of the putting together of the crab crew.

How to catch a crab: First you have to get a crab license which is about $9.00 then you had to get a crab net or basket. We rented those for about $10.00 each. Then you have to buy bait. Some people were just using raw chicken or raw something, but where we were they had frozen minks, which were about another $7.00 EACH. So all in all we spent about $26.00 dollars or more on catching crabs. This is a big deal, and with clamming the day before the men knew that they had to provide for there families so whoever could catch the most or whatever the joke was that that family would be provided for. There were rules though, the crabs had to be over 5 and a half inches wide and they had to be male, so it wasnt an easy task. As you can see from the picture of Bob above he was getting pretty nervous about it.

Nate caught one but it was toooooooo SMALL, sorry Nate no food for you.

First caught crab for the family went to my brother in law Chris, unfortunatley he has 5 kids and a wife so they would need more then one crab to cover them.

Corey caught a crab for him and I so I knew that I wasnt going to go hungry.

But we ended up with 3 crabs total and I think that the boys had a lot of fun. The fisherman of the dock talked the group of guys to come back up in the morning at about 5:00 am to try for the best time of crabbing, but I couldnt even dream of getting up that early to do that and just to take pictures, NO WAY! Right at the end of the trip Bob noticed something white and all buy itself swimming around. Corey had a water bottle that he squished into the water to suck up the white blob and it ended up being a little jelly fish. I thought that it was kind of cool, so I took a picture of it.

PS. Congradulations to Shane, Emily and Brooks. YOu guys look adorable together with your new addition to the family. We are glad that all things went well and safe. We love you guys and cant wait to see the little guy when we come home. Congrats to the HOFHINES.
